Wedding Planner: My First Experience
Last year in March, my close friends were married and they kinda asked me to be a wedding planner for them. At that time, I was so busy with my thesis so I told them I could do the full-time wedding planner for them but they can ask me all information they want about wedding shopping directory in Bangkok, Thailand. Because all of my close friends know that I have a huge passion in wedding stuffs.. I know where to buy favors, order invitations, find the wedding gown boutiques, find the professional wedding organizer companies, photography, and even book the ballroom for the party at the hotels.
In fact, my groom and I are closer relationship than the bride (no no, I'm not the groom's ex-girlfriend but he is a friend of my ex-boyfriend... hahah confuse that??) so he was very appreciate that I was his bride's adviser and companion to go to the bridal shops (why would he not happy?? He didn't have to go through all wedding gown tour around the city to find the perfect one and didn't have to fight with the bride about the dress her want but not make her more beauty). So I kinda be Maid-of-Honor plus Wedding Planner at that time.
What were my duties at that wedding??
Ask the bride what concept and style she want for her wedding party
Look for the magazines and show her the dresses that I think she will be beautiful
Take her to the bridal shops for dresses, favors, and invitations
Be her companion to the hotel to plan the table arrangement with the hotel officers, to the wedding shows looking for the photograph studio for the photography
Give her my opinions about the wedding gowns, favors, and invitations
and more...
As I told them I can't be their full-time wedding planner, they decided to buy the wedding package from the wedding company that they chose to hire the photography. This company offered them (in this package), 3-4 sets of dresses (2 wedding gowns + 2 private dresses) with how many photos I can't remember; make-up and hair-do on the wedding day at the wedding place; the photo albums; the photo board at the reception area with 2m x 2m (very big one); the wedding gown for the wedding day (which the bride changed to more photograph sets coz she ordered the dress from the boutique already.. you will see in the video the set that they were in the forrest.. they went to another province to take this photo-shoot sets); the video presentation with animation and the couple's voice.. and the invitation design for them.
At first they both wanted their wedding palette as Blue, Green, and White.. and I agreed with them coz this palette is beautiful. When they told the wedding organizer to design their wedding invitation to this palette.. They said THEY CAN'T DO THAT coz THE COLORS are NOT MATCH... What do you mean they not MATCH??? So when I knew about this I designed her by myself to show her that it's easy to make the colors that the customer want.. coz you charge them a lot how come you can't do what they want. Here are samples that I made for them to see that I can make this in only ONE HOUR.
The spaces that you see are for the photos of the couple and I have to edit and adjust again.
And then The Bride saw the pictures of the real wedding in the magazine and want the background of her stage as same as that. So she asked the hotel to do that and you know what " THEY CAN'T DO THAT" and then she asked the wedding company to do that and they told her that this was in the package if she wants she have to pay more (want to know how much they paid this company, right?? The package was about 120,000 Baht - about $4,000 at that time, and the bride ordered more photos with them another 150,000 Baht ($5,000) - I wasn't with her that time she ordered more photos which was ridiculous because you will see the same photos with slightly different face poses. Anyway, they will charge more about 20,000 Baht ($650) for the background. You already had about $9,000 from her you still want more???? If you think this is OK for all they did, No IT's NOT. Why?? Because they didn't design any new one for them, they used the pattern and theme they already used with other customers and just change the letters and the names. How difficult that is???). So I decided to make her by myself and we went to the photo printing shop to print it on the big vinyl canvas with size around 1.5m x 2.5m and asked the hotel to attach it on the stage.
No no, my duties were not over.. not yet.. due to the reception area in front of the ballroom was so big, they wanted to decorate it and when the guests come they will feel like they walk to the photo gallery. So they already had 2 big photos (one was in the package, another they gave the couple for free coz the bride ordered more photos which costs more than the package); and they needed the photo boards with post-card size photos and the tables with photo frames.. Me and the bride were agreed to do by ourselves coz the bride didn't want to spend more money over than necessary so we went to the craft market and bought everything we need.. These were what I made.. I said "I" coz most of them I made.. the bride only painted the photo frames (because during that time the couple renovated their house too.. )
The dress in this picture was not the real one on the wedding day, this was on the fitting day.
Last one that I did for them was the wedding presentation to show as the digital photo albums at the reception area. It didn't have music coz they had the music in every place of the party. And this one you see was just one part of 12 minutes presentation. All photos were taken by the professional photographer from that company. I admit you that he is good on photography...
Anything else.. I can't remember... But I think I will do this to other friends of mine again.. Coz I love WEDDING. Do you want me to be your wedding planner or maid-of-honor???
